Studiomili, known for their exciting illustrations, opened their exhibition “Dwellings” at Artotel a couple of months ago.

I went there with some very good friends and we had already occupied one corner full of big pillows and a patch of grassy carpet before the exhibition started.

At seven, the hotel staff served very tasty snacks and beer to the guests, and soon DJ Uda Sjam started to spin his records, including one of my favourites: “Dub Be Good To Me” by Fatboy Slim’s former band Beats International.

Arris along with Mahendra Nazar from ORANG Illustrated Goods and Albert Gunawan from LAYER Creative Surface opened the exhibition, followed by artist talk where guests can discuss the creative process of the exhibition with the artists involved.

A total of 30 posters were featured at the exhibition, and guests took turn to take pictures with the posters and cushions of the city dwellers, or browsed for posters to buy near the elevator. A couple of special edition posters were also for sale during the exhibition only – “Window” and “Good Book” – featuring the night owl who spends the night at Artotel, sipping a nice cup of coffee (or tea?) and falling asleep when it was reading a book.

The exhibition is still up and running until June 9, so you should definitely pay them a visit and meet their city dwellers.

And don’t forget to hug the owl! 😉
