#ThrowbackThursday: 90 Songs That Defined Me In The 90s

The 1990s was when my musical taste reached its peak. And songs I listened to thousands of times throughout my life were apparently released or came across my ears for the first time in the 1990s.

And this explains why I consider Pet Shop Boys and erasure are the best bands ever and why I can still sing along to most of the 90s songs, even if some of them have the most annoying tunes.

Peer pressure was also at the highest level at that time, and so trying to look cool and more normal (though come to think of it now, I had always too weird to fit in), I started to listen to more masculine, alternative bands like Third Eye Blind and Foo Fighters.

At the same time, the urge to be non-conforming had made me loathing the mainstream pop music trends at that time like boy bands and girl bands who couldn’t really sing properly, hip-hop and RnB with sexist music videos, and powerhouse singers whose videos being played too often on MTV.

After all, the 1990s was not only about boy bands or dead rappers or Titanic, but also about the rise of Britpop, rock bands who no longer sing soppy songs, and maturing 80s synthpop bands.

Nonetheless, I realise that I cannot escape from the fact that 90s music, even those who I used to despise or ignore, has shaped me into who I am today. The guilty pleasure is real.

Oh well, here is the list of 90 songs that defined me in the 1990s.
