The gig, held on Saturday evening, April 11, 2026, was a celebration of new releases of bands from several indie labels, including Anoa Records, Tarsius Records, and Shiny Happy Records. Organized by Cumi and friends, the night featured (in order of appearance): The Fabulous Friends, Sekuel, Annemarie, H!, Planetbumi, and The North Palm.
I arrived at Psychocandy Records just as The Fabulous Friends were finishing their set, so I unfortunately missed them entirely. It was drizzling outside, but luckily I could ask Cumi to keep my keyboard and bag in his car. It was great to see familiar faces like Peter and Mas Tomo, as well as friends from Antara who showed up to support Cumi’s gig.
Sekuel took the stage second—fittingly enough, given their name—performing tracks from their latest EP, Runaway Song. The EP was released by Anoa Records and is currently available at Psychocandy Records.

Annemarie was, performing classic hits (among others) from their album ABC on TV. Hearing songs like “Apple (Suicide On Your Stereo Set),” “The Living Model,” and my personal favorite, “Bubble Gum I See,” instantly transported me back twenty years to Bandung. Cumi was on keyboards, providing their signature twee-pop piano and glockenspiel sounds.

Next up was H!, Cumi’s personal music project. For this performance, he was joined by six musicians from various bands and music communities, with Cumi himself taking on guitar and vocal. For his latest release “Soft Focus Polaroid”, Cumi asked his wife to join him on stage to sing.

Planetbumi was probably the most anticipated act of the evening. The (older) indie kids crowded the front, grabbing the mic to sing along (check my previous post for more photos and videos of our set).

The night closed off with The North Palm, whose post-punk sound channelled mid-80s New Order. Perhaps a bit less raw than The Porno’s take on Joy Divsion, but just as atmospheric. They even ended their set with a cover of New Order’s “Regret”, featuring Cumi on vocals.

It was a wonderful evening that wrapped up a a sensible hour, considering many of us are in our 40s now! 🙂
