This was the first exhibition I went to since I returned to Jakarta. Organised by Antara, the exhibition displayed photos of Merapi, Indonesia’s famous volcano, which erupted last year. The eruption – an absolute photographers’ goldmine – sadly killed at least 165 people, including its loyal keeper, Mbah Maridjan.
The volcano also led Indonesian photographer Kemal Jufri to win a prestigious World Press Photo Award, gaining second place in the People in the News category.
The event took place at Duta Fine Arts Gallery in Kemang and it also marked the launch of the photo book.
