Going to Bandung with many plans (attending wedding reception, meeting TEDxITT organisers, taking back Supper Snapshots photos, among many others), in a day was completely exhausting. But Titing and I managed to pass them all through while spending a cloudy Saturday eating high-sugar, extra-sweet cakes and desserts

We started the day early, taking the 6 o’ clock train from Jatinegara station. We arrived at 9 in Bandung, and we walked from the south side of the station to Braga Street, or Bragaweg, a street filled with European-style cafes and pubs. The buildings along this street are super nice: whitewashed bricks, wooden doors, and vintage pub signs.

We finally decided to have a brunch at Sumber Hidangan, a restaurant and bakery once known as Het Snoephuis (snacks house).

Since we had already had breakfasts, we bought some light meals; soesjes (profiterole) and saucijzenbroodjes (sausage rolls).

I had the chocolate soesje and Titing had caramel soesje. And every time I look at these photos it still makes me drool..

From Bragaweg we moved on to the Geology Museum (the auditorium of Geology Museum, to be exact), where my friend ‘Mo married his girlfriend Minda.

Mo was my bandmate at F Minor, ST., a swing-jazz band playing covers of Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, etc etc. We were a school band, under an organisation called UKM (lit. meaning Students’ Activity Unit) Band, where ‘Mo was the chief.

So at the reception there were guys from UKM Band – whom most of them I hadn’t met for half a decade.

And the catering was superb, so Titing and I had another round of sweet desserts. From cakes to pudding to cocktails.

After some chit-chats and desserts, we were ready to move to our next stop.

ps: there was this nice leafless tree which i had been keen of since i visited the museum with maarten in january, and now we met again. so i had no reason not to take a photo of this beauty.

Our next destination was Common Room, as I planned to bring the photos from my Supper Snapshots exhibition back to Jakarta. However, there was a possibility that we wouldn’t need to bring the heavy cardboards (on which we pasted the photos) as there was a chance to have another exhibition at my previous school in Bandung.

Common Room was preparing for an event, called “A Music Biz: How To Make A Promotion Kit and Press Release”, and people started coming to the venue.

When the inner terrace was already filled with people, Titing and I sat on the front terrace, checking our emails and chatting about a gig we went to the night before. Not long after, I met the liaison officers of TEDxITT, who invited me (and Maarten) to be speakers to share about our Supper Snapshots project. Long story short, he agreed that we could have a mini exhibition at the venue, so we didn’t need to bring the photos back to Jakarta, yet.

Our next sugar rush encounter was with an old friend, mas Fanny. Accidentally enough, we first met at Common Room, for an English Club back in the year of 2004.

We soon moved to Cafe Victoria, a few walks away from Common Room. Cafe Victoria is a nice cafe with a very nice garden, although unfortunately when we got there, there were not so many cakes available. We had cheese swiss roll and chocolate (hagelslag) swiss roll, yum yum yum.
