[ella empress and the layers of reality] transfer | me

12.02.10

The second performance of Ella Empress and the Layers of Reality took place in Amsterdam (the first performance is in Rotterdam, here), at Artnpublic. And if the location last week reminded me of Ruang Rupa, this ArtnPublic space really reminded me of my old office. The Antara Gallery of Photojournalism. The event was called Transfer Me, with some music and art performances.

The first time I entered the building, I was greeted by Maarten’s mother, who told me there was a warm place (literally) if you sat on the stairway. Practically it was because there was this heater thingy right underneath the stairs (haha). Then I met Maarten which greeted me with a pizza. I met some of his friends too, which most of them I had already met in previous parties.

Upstairs there was an artist who made a really nice visual projection, where most of the performances would take place.

Ella Empress and The Layers of Reality was actually the first artist I saw performing that night. They had prepared this time, and their musical pieces also sounded better compared to their previous performance.

Other performance worth watching was when there are two girls in wedding dresses and had various acts from putting a make up, reading Butt magazine, sitting on swing, to putting themselves into card boxes.

And of course, I finally saw Terry and his crossbow! First he painted the whole stereo system red (the thingy played loud-slash-aggressive music by the way), and then he shot the stereo system onto a piece of his artwork hung right in front of the crossbow.

Apart from the performances, there were also some artworks exhibited there. I like an installation piece with projector and mirror. Unfortunately, I didn’t take a photo of it (stupid me..)

There were also some other music performances/DJ’s after that, but I was so tired so then we walked through Vondelpark to Leidseplein to get the night bus back to Centraal Station.
